Description

Pangio is a widespread genus of small, eel- or worm-like loaches from Southeast Asia. Many similar species are traded under the banner of Pangio kuhlii; these are actually most likely to be primarily P. semicincta. Kuhli loaches are reclusive and nocturnal, although having a large group of them and plenty of hiding spaces make them more outgoing. You may not see your Kuhlis all day but they are known to go crazy when the aquarium is fed! Kuhlis prefer a soft substrate in which they can burrow completely, and act more comfortably and naturally in setup with such. They also appreciate thick leaf litter and sediment layers in blackwater-type aquaria.

These are young specimens around 2-3" long.

Due to the overlapping wild ranges of Pangio sp., and the fact that all Kuhlis are wild caught, most batches are mixes of various species. Most banded species require very close examination to distinguish from one another. We are unable to sort kuhlis by species when packing them and do not guarantee our specimens are of any particular species. Pangio semicincta are the most common kuhlis you will encounter, but specimens of P. myersi, P. cuneovirgata, P. shelfordi or other banded species may be mixed in.
