Description

Mastacembelus erythrotaenia is a large species of spiny eel from Southeast Asia. Reaching about 3 feet long, they're definitely larger than their popular cousins, the peacock and zigzag eels. Despite this large size, however, they are sedentary in nature and do not require excessively large aquaria to thrive; a 125 gallon aquarium should be sufficient for a full grown adult. Like most spiny eels they are very peaceful with tankmates too large to be seen as food; they may be territorial with each other, though. A soft, sandy substrate they can readily burrow into is preferred. Their orange and red markings on an inky black body make these fish a wonderful statement in large community tanks.

This are baby individuals, currently around 4-5" long.
