Description

Hemirhamphodon pogonognathus is a rarer species of halfbeak from brackish and freshwater habitats in southeast Asia. Like most other halfbeaks, they are livebearers and males possess a distinctive modified anal fin which is used as an intromittent organ. There is not much information available on this species online; care should be similar to other halfbeaks, doing best in calm tanks and as either a male/female pair or a single male with a harem of females. Based on their brackish tolerance these fish likely prefer neutral to harder water, which should make our Toronto tap water quite suitable.

These are young juveniles, around 1-1.5" long without the beak.
