Description
Pterophyllum scalare is one of the most popular tropical aquarium fish and has been kept by hobbyists for nearly 100 years. As such, there are many available morphs from solid white to solid black and everything in between. Angelfish make good community fish with mid to large sized tankmates, although their large adult size means especially small species such as cardinal tetras are generally best avoided.
These 'Manacapuru Red Back' angelfish (Sometimes known as Red Shoulders) are a natural morph that is famed for its intense red back colouration, with the standard vertical bars of most other morphs overtop. These are European-bred juveniles, slightly larger than a quarter in the body.
