Description

Cribroheros rostratus is a species of medium to large Central American cichlid. Sometimes known as the 'False Firemouth' cichlid, their care is similar to their more common namesakes; unlike a true firemouth, though, these fish can reach up to around 8". Like firemouths, these are a social species, best kept with a single male and a harem of females. As they hail from alkaline waters, they are right at home in our somewhat alkaline tapwater here in Toronto.

These are wild caught juveniles of the 'Rio Burro' locale. While they have very little colour to speak of right now, they develop rich gold and orange colour with age, covered with metallic blue spangling.
