Description
The Black-Spined Toad (Duttaphrynus melanostictus) is is a medium-sized toad species with warty skin and noticeable Parotoid glands behind the ridges above their eyes. They typically exhibit colors ranging from olive brown to dull red, with paler underbellies. Along their backs, they possess a series of boney ridges, which gives them their common name. These toads grow to a length of approximately 20 cm (8 in). Males reach sizes between 8 and 10 cm, while females are larger and can reach lengths of about 9 to 11 cm.
Asian common toads breed during the monsoon season, and their tadpoles display a black coloration. After the monsoon rains conclude, it is common to observe large numbers of young toads.
