Description

Nomorhamphus ebrardtii is a rare and interesting halfbeak from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Males have bold red fins, and both sexes have interesting beaked mouths. They use their mouths not only for obtaining food, but also occasionally to wrestle and assert dominance. Although it is not particularly closely related to popular livebearers such as guppies or platies, like them, it gives birth to live young. Reaching about 2.5" max, they are a reasonably sized fish, but beware that their large mouths mean the smallest of schooling fish such as Boraras sp. or certain small tetras will likely be seen as prey. Otherwise, these surface-dwelling fish mix well in community aquaria.

These are young adults, around 2" long.
