Tails & Scales Shipping & Return Policy 

Most orders will ship out from our facility within two days of receiving the order.

Due to the high volume of orders the target of next day ship out is not possible. We are trying our best to get orders out as quickly as possible with most having a 2 to 3 day turn around.  There are some instances where an order may take longer to ship due to product availability. In these cases you will be contacted with a possible ship date. Please also remember that your orders are being shipped by ground service from our Toronto address.

Free Shipping over $150

This applies to products ordered on our website and does not include, animals, fish or plants. There are also a number of items that are heavy or oversized that are not included. These items include heavy substrates and extra large hides and lighting fixtures/bulbs over 36". Any order that has a weight greater than 4.5 KGs will be subject to a weight surcharge.  All enclosures are subject to surcharges or may, for some sizes, be only picked up at our shop.

Flat Rate Shipping

Flat rate shipping is now instituted for all aspects of the shop. This includes animal and plant shipping. No more waiting for a quote to find out how much it will cost to ship an animal, plant or product. Shipping cost will be calculated in the cart based on your location. Some remote locations may be subject to a surcharge or will have a higher flat rate.

Large sized plants may be subject to in store pick up only or may have large surcharge due to size and weight. Plants are also subject to strict quantity limits to make then available to all.

Returns

You may return your unopened merchandise within 14 days for an exchange. Items that are undamaged or non-defective will be assessed a 15% re-stocking fee unless it was a packing error on our part. If you take an exchange or a gift certificate the re-stocking fee will be waived.

The Buyer will pay all shipping costs on item returns.  Tails and Scales will pay return shipping only on defective products, and only after the product has been inspected and deemed to be defective.  Tails and Scales will also pay shipping on the replacement products.

All warranties are handled by the manufacturers.

All returns must be within 14 days and must be unopened and new. Please email us at info@tailsandscales.ca before you send it back. We can not be responsible for damaged or lost returns, so please use a service with delivery confirmation. Please do not send back used products they will not be considered as a return. It takes approximately 3 - 4 business days to process returns from the time we receive them.

If an item was damaged in shipping, you must notify us immediately.  You must keep the damaged item, and the original shipping container, as well as packing materials, until a file has been claimed.  Keep the item and packaging for 14 days from the day you notify us of the damage, the carrier may send someone to inspect the damage.

If an item is returned due to an incorrect addressa fee of $15 will be charged to you before your package is re-released. If the item is returned to us due to an error on our end it will be sent out immediately with no additional fees.

Shipping Live Insects & Frozen Feeders

We do not currently offer shipment of live insects and frozen feeders. Purchased feeders can be picked up at our retail store.
