Description
Chapalichthys encaustus is a Goodeid livebearer from Mexico. These cool-water livebearers are a nice bronzeish hue with black spotting. A cool winter with temps around or below 20 Celsius, followed by a warmer summer, is usually required to make them breed consistently. Like all Goodeids they can have a bit of an attitude and are best maintained in species tanks with a focus on breeding them.
These individuals, around 1.5" long, came to us as C. encaustus, but have more irregular black markings than that species. They are, however, definitely different than the C. pardalis we had in the past, which had thicker bodies and a more golden hue.
