Description
Hypseleotris compressa is a colourful, mid-sized (Up to around 4") gudgeon species from Australia and New Guinea. While their day-to-day colour is nothing spectacular, displaying males flush reddish-orange in the body and fins, sometimes paired with a metallic green flank. While they squabble amongst themselves, like most gudgeons, they leave most tankmates that do not resemble them alone. A male and a harem of females is quite a sight to see in a lush, densely planted tank. They are hardy and adaptable, tolerating a very wide range of water parameters.
These are subadults, around 2" long. Some are beginning to show colour and a few males have begun growing a nuchal hump.
