Description

Ptychognathus barbatus is a rare and relatively recent arrival to the hobby. These small, filter-feeding crabs are one of the few species in the trade that are both fully freshwater and fully aquatic. They are named for their hairy claws that they use to sift Plus, their diet of detritus and suspended particulate matter makes them much more peaceful than other crabs. With all this is mind, you can usually keep them in a well-planned community tank with fish that are too small to eat these 1" crabs. It is rerported that the crabs may prey on small snails or dwarf shrimp.

These are mid-sized individuals around 0.25-0.5" in the body and around 1-1.5" in total leg span.
