Description
Melanotaenia garylangei, also known as Gary Lange's Rainbowfish, is a striking species characterized by vibrant coloration and distinctive sexual dimorphism. Males feature a blue anterodorsal body, olive-green upper body, and red to orange belly, with striking red and black stripes along the sides. Their unpaired fins are red with yellowish-orange hues, and their dorsal fins extend past the second dorsal fin. Females are lighter brown with less vivid coloration and lack the blue nape and red fins. This species reaches sexual maturity around 25 mm in length, with males exhibiting a deeper body and more elongated fins compared to females. They are a visually captivating addition to any aquarium, especially as they reach their colorful adult forms.
