Description
Nannacara taenia is a rarely-seen dwarf cichlid from Brazil. While not as colourful as its more popular cousin Nannacara anomala, its main allure is its tiny size: at 2" maximum, this is among the smallest available cichlids. They can be shy, so the best tankmates would be small, laid-back fishes such as small tetras and rasboras, Corydoras spp., pencilfish, etc. Their pattern, while not the most colourful, is pleasing, with well-defined horizontal striping and a thin band of red pigment along the edge of the dorsal fin. When breeding, females adopt a bold black and white pattern of bars.
These are captive-bred subadults, currently around 1" long. Even when mature, sexing these fish is difficult, and would be nearly impossible at this age. For this reason, all fish will be sold unsexed and we will not be able to sex fish on request.
