Endemic to Sumatra, Indonesia, this species is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures as it naturally occurs between about 300m and 1,100m altitude. It is typically grown in highland conditions, but can also tolerate warmer temperatures. It generally prefers lower light levels to many other Nepenthes species, as it naturally occurs in dense submontaine forest where it climbs strongly upwards towards the light.
