Plant Availability

Please be aware that plants may not always be available to order, as some are seasonal or rare and difficult to obtain. If you're looking for a specific plant that is currently unavailable, please reach out with your contact info, and we can add you to our call list.

Please note that the photos of animals and plants may not accurately represent our current stock and could include past orders or stock images. Some images may showcase more mature specimens, as certain species do not display their full colors or patterns until maturity. While we strive to accommodate requests for additional photos, we cannot guarantee their availability. Thank you for your understanding!

Description

SKU: BE-4033

Climate : Highland

Description:

This species is a top favorite for many growers. Endemic to the island of Borneo where it usually grows as an epiphyte, it produces magnificent pitchers, with hugely flared peristomes. Pitcher bodies have a wonderful velvety texture and peristomes vary a great deal in color – ranging from pink, through gold, to deep brown. Sometimes peristomes are a single color, and others can be candy-striped. There are endless variations that often don’t become fully apparent until plants mature.

This item is a random selection from hundreds of different clones, being a mixture obtained from an entire seed head. It was created in our nurseries from mother plants, which themselves are selected clones from seed-raised individuals. Both male and female parents are of the Bareo form of the species.

As might be expected, the plants we are seeing are highly variable. Peristome colouration ranges from pure gold to candy striped and pitcher bodies vary from gold to pink, with all sorts of variations in between. Most pitchers are squat but some are not. The huge number of clones involved in this cross makes this item particularly interesting, since it’s unlikely that two identical individuals will be present in any particular shipment. This item differs from BE-3734 in that both sets of parent plants are different clones and have different appearances.

History: First introduced in Oct 2020 from seed harvested in Oct 2016. This is the second grex we have created, the first being BE-3734 which was introduced in Dec 2016 and used different parent plants. It last sold out in Oct 2020 and returned in Oct 2021.

The female parent is the squat pure-gold form, with our collection ID# 0225. The male parent has a gold peristome with red stripes – which is most unusual – and has our collection ID# 0210. Both parents are shown in the photos at the end of the series.

This item differs from BE-3734 in that both parent plants are different clones and have different appearances from the parents used to create BE-3734. Therefore, the colourations and forms of individuals are likely to vary between this item and BE-3734.
The photos shown here are representative and taken from the few plants of this item that we have so raised at the time of writing (Oct 2020). However, it could be that none of them are identical to plants shipped. The last two photos in the series are of the actual parent plants used.

Photo notes: Photos are of representative clones and may not be identical to plants shipped.
