Description

Macrognathus siamensis is a species of spiny eel from Thailand, also known as the spot-fin spiny eel or Siamese spiny eel. These sand-loving fish are not true eels, but instead members of their own family, Mastacembelidae. Most spiny eels grow quite large, but peacock eels are prized for only reaching about a foot long. They are fairly shy fish, and will often spend most of the day buried or hiding in caves/vegetation, but will usually come out as soon as they smell food. Because of their tendency to dig, a soft sandy substrate is recommended.
