Description
Polypterus lapradei is one of the larger “underbite” type bichirs, reaching about 2-2.5’ in length. These fairly sedentary fish are usually quite peaceful with tankmates that are too large to make meals of. Ideal candidates include larger characins, cichlids, catfish, and barbs. Take care housing bichirs with large plecos, as plecos may sometimes attach to polypterids to suck off their slime coat.
Stunning juveniles around 6" long of this rarely offered, highly sought after locale.
