Description
Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi, also known (erroneously) as the Egyptian Mouthbrooder, is an extremely colourful west African cichlid. Males develop canary-yellow bodies with heavy red and electric blue spangling, while females are green and resemble tiny bass. The territorial males grow to more than 3 times the mass of the smaller females! Males reach around 3.5-4" long while females rarely exceed 2". We recommend keeping a single male with a harem of females, or just a single male. While somewhat territorial and not a good match for other cichlids, they mix well with larger tetras, danios, barbs, rainbows, and other robust schoolers. These shining jewels of West Africa make absolutely stunning, and behaviourally interesting, showpieces for a community aquarium.
These are young individuals, around 0.75-1" long.
