Description
Asolene spixi goes by many names, including Zebra Apple Snail, Spixi Snail, or Striped Mystery Snail. These useful little snails are much more plant safe than their more common cousins, the Mystery Snail, and are generally fine in planted aquaria. They are largely detrivores and do well on sinking fish foods. These nocturnal animals spend much of the day partially buried in the substrate, which helps prevent harmful stagnant gas pockets. They also eat hydra, making them useful for eliminating this harmful pest in shrimp tanks! Reaching about 1" long, these mid-sized snails are fine in aquaria of 2.5 gallons or more.
These are subadults around 3/4 of an inch in diameter.
