Description
Leporinus steyermarki is a large characin that reaches around 10-12" in maximum length. These active, boisterous fish can sometimes be a bit nippy with vulnerable/long-finned tankmates, but from our experience this species is better behaved than the more common banded Leporinus. Leporinus are omnivores that appreciate lots of plant matter in their diet, and may eat softer live plants. These fish pair best with other large and robust schoolers such as silver dollars, large barbs, etc. They also make good dither fish for large cichlids.
These individuals are subadults, around 4-5" long.
