Description
Platydoras armulatus, sometimes called the humbug catfish, is a mid-sized South American armoured cat. They are also one of many catfish known as "talking cats"; when removed the water they can grunt, squeak, and bark by stridulating with their pectoral fins. While they can reach up to 10" long, 6-8" is more common in aquaria. Raphael cats are a highly peaceful and very inactive fish. While they will eat tiny fish that can fit in their mouths, they are otherwise completely unaggressive. Tending to spend the majority of their time in caves waiting for food, these catfish don't need as large a tank as their size may suspect.
This is a young adult, around 4" long.
