Description

Apistogramma baenschi is a species of dwarf cichlid in the A. nijsseni species group, along with the popular A. panduro. They are a smaller apisto, with even males not exceeding 2.5". Females have the typical black and yellow colours of apistos, but with heavy black patterning making a "tiger striped" pattern. Males develop a striking combo of yellow-orange and metallic blue, and the caudal fin edge is intense red. Care is about the same as any other captive bred apisto; other cichlids are best avoided, and the presence of small schooling 'dither' fish will help them feel more at ease.
