Description
UPDATE: Thanks to some help online, we are tentatively identifying this apisto as A. velifera!
This enigmatic apisto was sent to us as A. hongsloi from Colombia, but is most certainly not that fish. The closest we can narrow the ID down to is the regani species complex; we know it belongs to this complex as it possess 7 distinctive vertical dark bars along the flank. Its most distinct feature, though, and what does not match any species in that complex that we could find imagery of, is its heavily striped tail. They also posses a blue mask and yellow lips. While we may not be able to positively ID them, we find these apistos quite visually pleasing.
These specimens are around 1-1.5" long.
