Description
Caridina typus. These industrious Australian shrimp share many similarities with the more popular Japanese Amano shrimp (C. multidentata). Like them, these shrimp are proficient algae eaters, especially of hair-type algae. Reaching about 1" max, it is more compact than the Japanese amano. They also have a darker complexion than the usual amano shrimp. Overall a great alternative, especially as at the time of writing regular amanos have become scarce in the pet trade.
These are juveniles around 0.75" long.
