Description
Betta macrostoma, the Brunei Beauty, is considered the crown jewel of wild betta species. Reacvhing about 4" long, the stunning brick orange colour of males, with the gold ocellated fins, is breathtaking. Not to mention their huge, bass-like mouth for which they are named! These sensitive wild bettas require a tank with soft water (below 5 degrees GH/KH) and a pH between 4 and 6. A blackwater tank with driftwood, leaf litter, and some hardy acid-tolerant plants such as certain crypts, java fern, and Anubias, will work best. If you are rewarded with breeding, they are a paternal mouthbrooder, with males carrying the eggs in their mouths for 14-35 days before releasing free-swimming fry.
This is a 1.1 , 3.5-4" long each pair of this rare and highly prized species. They are not proven breeders but they aren't killing each other, either; always a good sign with Bettas!
