Description
Betta rubra, also known as the Toba betta, is one of the more colourful wild Betta sp. found in the hobby. It is not nearly as tolerant of adverse conditions as the common B. splendens; a heater and a cycled, filtered tank are a must. These Bettas are quite shy so all but the smallest and most peaceful tankmates (Such as Boraras sp.) are best avoided. Wild bettas also appreciate dark, acidic, tannin-stained water with dim lighting and floating plants. Males can be kept with a harem of females or as pairs; provided their ideal conditions are met they spawn very readily, and quite frequently. These highly intelligent and rewarding fish are a real collector's piece!
These are juveniles around 1.25" long, not yet coloured up. They are unfortunately too small to sex.
