Description
Oryzias latipes is also known as the Japanese ricefish, or the Medaka. They are adaptable to a very broad range of water conditions from brackish water to acidic streams. They are also very easy to breed; curiously, females carry the eggs around stuck to their anal fin before finding a suitable place to deposit them, usually among fine-leaved vegetation. These fish prefer cooler conditions and can be maintained without a heater.
These are juveniles of the calico 'Black & Orange' morph, around 0.75" long.
