Description

Blood Python (T+ Albino Ivory)

Python brongersmai
Common Names: Blood Python, Brongersmai Python
(Ivory = Super Matrix; T+ Albino = Tyrosinase-Positive Albino, recessive morph)

Species Overview

  • Size: Adults typically grow 4–6 feet (1.2–1.8 m), with females generally larger and heavier-bodied. Exceptional individuals may exceed 7 feet.

  • Appearance:

    • Ivory (Super Matrix): The homozygous form of the Matrix gene, producing a snake that is pale, creamy, and reduced-pattern, often appearing almost solid ivory with faint striping or ghosted pattern.

    • T+ Albino (recessive – visual): Removes melanin while retaining brown, caramel, and golden pigments, resulting in a soft pastel colour palette of creams, golds, and light browns.

    • When combined, the T+ Albino Ivory is an exceptionally clean and bright morph, with creamy caramel tones and a near-patternless appearance that glows under natural light.

  • Distribution: Wild-type Blood Pythons are native to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and surrounding islands.

  • Habitat: Found in swamps, marshes, and humid forests, preferring dense vegetation and high-moisture environments.

  • Behaviour: A terrestrial ambush predator, feeding primarily on small mammals and birds.

Captive Care

  • Enclosure: Adults should be housed in at least a 4 ft × 2 ft × 1.5–2 ft enclosure, prioritizing floor space over height. Provide secure hides, a deep substrate for burrowing, and a large water dish for soaking.

  • Temperature & Humidity: Maintain a basking spot at 86–88°F (30–31°C) with a cooler end at 78–80°F (25–27°C). Keep humidity between 60–70%, with spikes to 80% during shedding.

  • Diet: Juveniles should be offered hopper rats or equivalent prey every 5–7 days. Adults thrive on medium to large rats every 10–14 days. Overfeeding should be avoided, as Blood Pythons are prone to obesity.

  • Behaviour in Captivity: Captive-bred T+ Albino Ivories are typically hardy and reliable feeders, though like most Blood Pythons, they can be food-driven and defensive if startled. With consistent care, they usually settle into steady, predictable captives.

  • Special Considerations: Best kept in naturalistic, humidity-retentive enclosures with deep substrate, which promotes natural burrowing and supports hydration.

Genetics Note

  • Matrix (Co-Dominant – Visual): Breaks up normal pattern into flames and fragmented blotches.

  • Super Matrix (Homozygous = Ivory): Produces the Ivory, a pale, reduced-pattern snake.

  • T+ Albino (Recessive – Visual): Removes black pigment while leaving caramel, golden, and chocolate tones.

  • T+ Albino Ivory (Combo): The pairing produces an almost patternless, creamy caramel morph, prized for its clean, glowing appearance and potential in advanced breeding projects.

The Blood Python (T+ Albino Ivory) is one of the most elegant and highly desired designer morphs, combining the pale reduced pattern of Ivory with the golden caramel glow of T+ Albino to create a snake that is both visually stunning and genetically powerful.
