Description

Apteronotus albifrons is an otherworldly-looking predatory knifefish from South America. Their ghostly appearance gives rise to legends tin their native range that they are in fact the spirits of the dead. Knifefish are known for producing electricity, with the most famous example being the Electric Eel (which is not an eel at all, but a giant knifefish!) although most produce only weak field used for navigating murky waters and detecting prey. Black ghost knives reach about 20" long but are quite peaceful with most fish that will not fit in their mouths. Other electric fish should be avoided, however, as they may be territorial with each other.
