Description

Acestrorhynchus falcatus is a predatory characin named for its striking resemblance to the unrelated, saltwater Barracuda species. They are voracious predators of fish smaller than them but are actually quite peaceful with fish too large to be considered food. Like many more common characins such as tetras or silver dollars, it is a timid schooling fish and will fare much better in a group of 3-4 individuals than it will on its own. As an active midwater predator it is also more comfortable in a largely open tank than one crowded with plants and decor.

These specimens are currently eating only live foods although they may be weaned onto frozen fare with perseverance.
