Description
Asterophysus batrachus (Also known as the Ogre catfish) is a one of a kind catfish from northern South America. These predatory fish are capable of swallowing prey larger than they are! Because of this ability, they are obviously best kept on their own; essentially any fish that is not large enough to eat the gulper cat will fall prey to it. Due to the size of meals they eat, gulper cats do not need frequent feeding; 1-2 per week is sufficient for an adult. Gulpers reach just shy of a foot long in maximum length. While they may not lend themselves to a busy monster fish tank, these predators are popular with those who enjoy the spectacle of feeding them, or simply appreciate having such a bizarre creature.
