Description
Melanotaenia kamaka, the Lake Kamaka rainbow. This uncommon species has somewhat similar coloration to the more common Turquoise/Lake Kutubu rainbow. Kamakas are a deeper blue colour, with unique, ultra bright silvery-blue highlights. When displaying, the dorsal stripe of males almost looks like it's glowing, especially first thing after the lights come on in the morning.
These are young adults around 2.5" long. While their full adult colour pattern is already present, like most rainbows they age like fine wine and will become more and more beautiful with age. This batch in particular is among the best rainbows the author has ever seen! Photos cannot begin to capture the many tones of blue on these fish.
