Description
The New Caledonian Giant Gecko, Leachianus Gecko, or ‘Leachie’ gecko (Rhacodactylus leachianus) is the largest of all gecko species, and dominates its environment in New Caledonia. Reaching lengths of up to a foot or more, they enjoy both insect and fruit diets like most other species from these islands (though they are no stranger to lizard snacks in the wild). One of their more unique features is the shortened tail, which appears only half grown. There are various locales of this species, each with their own unique markings and colorations.
