Description
Narceus americanus, also known as the Ironworm, is the largest species of millipede native to Canada, making it legal to own and sell here in Ontario. These beautiful arthropods are a steely gray banded with pink to orange stripes, and have a myriad of red legs. Care is quite simple; animal safe soil or ABG mix placed to a depth of at least 3” in a suitable container and enclosure, plenty of leaf litter on top, and occasional feedings of veggie-based prepared or fresh foods. Keep the soil moist but not soaking. These creatures appreciate company and will breed if a male and female are housed together, although they are slow growing.
Each millipede comes in a 4” deli cup that is sufficient to keep one specimen in, complete with substrate and leaf litter.
