Pethia padmaya is a beautiful barb from Myanmar. While these fish first appeared in the hobby in the early 1970s, their precise wild origin was not discovered until the mid-2000s. Mature males have a bright red streak across the flank, and both sexes have lovely black edged fins and scales. These barbs almost look like fine linework that has been coloured over top of! They are not overtly aggressive for a barb and can be kept with similarly-sized, robust fishes.
These are subadults around 1-1.25" long. Some males are beginning to colour up but more time and feeding are needed to get these beauties to their full potential.
