Description
Chalceus macrolepidotus is a large characin that reaches up to 8-10" in maximum length. They look fearsome, almost like a miniature tiger fish, but for the most part they are peaceful with fish around their size. They have large, metallic scales and pink to red finnage. These fish spend most of their time near the surface, so they compliment mid- and bottom-dwelling species well. Chalceus are best kept in large groups (5-6 or more) or in singles, to spread out any territorial aggression.
These are adults around 6" long with well-developed colour.
