Description
Apistogramma atahualpa, formerly known as A. sp. 'Sunset'. Hailing from Peru, these fish are part of the cacatuoides group, along with popular species such as the aforementioned A. cacatuoides, and A. trifasciata. Males have deep orange bodies and silvery purple fins; this are truly an incomparable cichlid. Reaching about 4" in maximum length, these are among the largest of apistos.
These are WC juveniles, around 1-1.5" long. Unlike many apistos, this species usually grows finer with age; that is not to say many males in the batch aren't bright orange already!
