Description
Panaque schaeferi is a large xylivorous (wood-eating) pleco from Peru. Reaching about 24" long, these truly are a titanic pleco. Built like a tank and covered with spines, these fish would few to no natural predators as adults. Panaques use spoon-shaped teeth to shave curls of wood off of decaying logs, and must have driftwood available to them at all times. Algae wafers and fresh blanched veg such as potato, cucumber, and zucchini should also be offered regularly.
These are juveniles around 4" long.
