Description

The Xyliphius lepturus is similar to the commonly known as the Banjo Catfish, is a unique species native to the upper Amazon and Orinoco River basins in South America. Growing up to 5.2 inches, this catfish is named for its wood-like appearance, with its name derived from the Greek "xyliphion," meaning "a piece of wood." Found in the Pastaza River in Ecuador, it is known for its distinctive, flattened body that resembles a banjo. The Banjo Catfish is a peaceful species, making it an intriguing addition to community aquariums, especially for those interested in less common species.
